From hobby to professional belly dancing

In a magical world in Hengelo, Honey Rutgers shares her passion for the oldest dance in the world with enthusiastic people. At only 25 years old and studying psychology, she already has a considerable amount of experience. Where does her passion for dancing come from?

From dancing in front of the TV to belly dancing in Hengelo

With a Dutch father and a Persian mother, Honey was exposed to different cultures at a young age She was born on June 14, 1997 in Almelo, and spent her free time watching Bollywood films, but her love for different types of music was already ingrained due to her multicultural background. So it’s no surprise that she expressed herself through dance from a young age. As a little girl, she copied her mother’s belly dance moves in front of the TV, but soon decided to take it more seriously. She practiced her greatest passion through various dance lessons throughout the Netherlands.

A dream come true: Honey's own dance school

Honey tried out almost every dance style there is, such as hip-hop, popping, (jazz) ballet, and modern, but her love for belly dancing ultimately prevailed. Her Persian mother once made it to dance competitions and Iranian music videos, but Honey had only one goal: to open her own dance school. This drive ultimately led her to start taking belly dance lessons throughout the Netherlands at the age of seventeen. Eventually, she moved to a dance school in Heerlen to obtain her certificate in belly dancing. She was already bookable for weddings and parties, but the dance training left her hungry for more. And with success, as her dream of opening her own dance school became a reality. Honey’s dance teacher, Yamilla in Heerlen, further fueled her entrepreneurial dream, which made Honey realize that her long-cherished childhood dream was achievable. Belly dancing in Hengelo is now a reality and you can learn the tricks of the trade from Honey.
